About the Event

The Public Health—Hope, Equity, Resilience, and Opportunity (PH-HERO) initiative is designed to address workforce burnout and moral injury and aid in overall retention and recruitment efforts to support a culture of well-being and system resilience within public health agencies. PH-HERO is building upon the best available evidence for designing thriving workplaces using a trauma-informed approach and equity framework.

2025 Learning Community Format:

Beginning January 2025, the PH-HERO community will change to be open to all PHIG Component A direct recipient agencies. The ideal representative from participating agencies would be the workforce director or other individual(s), but participation is open to any interested individuals at the workforce director’s discretion.

The learning community will meet monthly (dates for the year provided in advance) in one-hour meetings based on the following key objectives:

  • Reviewing, collecting, and analyzing existing evidence to support public health agency well-being.
  • Highlighting innovative well-being approaches in public health agencies.
  • Open discussion around overcoming challenges and roadblocks, including policies and processes to turn ideas into action.
  • Networking and support among participants and ASTHO staff to increase visibility and crowdsourced knowledge for well-being innovations and implementation.
